What a thrilling time for the world of headphones! The original Apple AirPods helped usher in this era of in-ear innovation, and they put the popular category of true wireless earbuds on the map. Now the AirPods Pro take another major leap forward. They have an ultra-lightweight, sweat-proof design that's even more compact than the originals. But they offer better audio performance and a loaded feature set that includes adaptive noise cancellation.
Now with a more stable fit
One gripe I had with the original AirPods was their lack of noise isolation. Apple addressed this problem with the AirPods Pro by offering three sizes of ear tips. They say these flexible, silicone tips will conform to the shape of your ear to create a comfortable, secure fit. I've tested a lot of in-ear headphones, and can't stress how much a proper fit can improve sound. A solid, noise-isolating seal can make for clearer vocals and improved bass response — a notorious knock on the original AirPods.
Smart, real-time noise canceling technology
These earbuds use an array of built-in mics to capture external sounds, then adjust the level of noise cancellation. I haven't tested the AirPods Pro noise-canceling technology yet in the real world, but it seems really promising on paper. That's because it runs on Apple's H1 wireless chip. The chip's state-of-the-art processing can reduce latency to such a miniscule amount that noise is basically cancelled out as it happens.
And if you're in a situation where you need to be aware of your surroundings, simply press the end of the earbud's "stem" once. A sensor will switch on "Transparency" mode so you can instantly hear important ambient noise or voices. The built-in mics will pick up external sounds.
Personalized sound powered by Apple's H1 wireless chip
I've spoken to engineers from other companies who marveled at the H1 chip in the AirPods released earlier this year. And that was before Apple showed off its full capabilities. With the AirPods Pro, they really let the chef cook with fire.
The H1 chip features ten audio cores that control every aspect of the sound experience. A special amplifier drives a high-excursion driver to deliver clear, low-distortion sound. And Apple's Adaptive EQ helps customize the sound for your specific ears. The technology is even intelligent enough to detect which ear tips you're wearing, and suggest a different size if necessary.

Steady, high-quality connection to your Apple gear
While the AirPods will play music wirelessly from any Bluetooth-enabled phone or music source, the H1 chip makes pairing up with Apple devices even more special. A one-tap connection syncs up the earbuds to your iPhone®, and then you're automatically paired to other devices on your iCloud® account (like your Apple Watch®, iMac®, or iPad®).
The H1 chip ensures an even stronger wireless connection than the first-generation AirPods, along with higher-fidelity streaming. Apple claims this new version offers 30% lower latency, too. That's key for noise cancellation and for watching videos or playing games, when you need the audio and video to sync up correctly.

And a super-powerful, voice-detecting microphone can filter out external sounds for clear calls in noisier environments.
Smarter, hands-free Siri® voice control
Siri voice commands are easier, too. Instead of having to double-tap the AirPods to activate Siri, you can just say "Hey Siri" and follow it up with a command or request.
After a one-time setup through a connected device (like your iPhone), Siri will recognize your voice command. Just how smart are these earbuds? When you remove one — or both — music will stop playing, and it resumes as soon as you put them back in.
A carrying case that's compatible with Qi wireless charging systems
Thanks to the H1 chip's battery management, the tiny AirPods Pro offer five and a half hours of music listening with noise cancellation on a full charge, or three hours of phone calls. They include the Apple Wireless Charging Case. Rather than plugging the case into the wall, you simply place it in on a compatible Qi charger (not included) to refresh the charge wirelessly. A green light will indicate the case is charging.
The case is a little bigger than a matchbox, and can bank 24 hours of power to recharge your AirPods. When you need to refuel, just click the AirPods into the case. Just 15 minutes of charging gives your AirPods an hour of wireless music listening with noise cancellation.

Overview: The Apple AirPods Pro are individual in-ear buds designed to work with your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac, as well as Android phones and tablets, and most other Bluetooth-enabled devices. The individual AirPods Pro measure 0.86" (w) x 1.22" (h) x 0.94" (d), and weigh 0.19 ounces each. AirPods power on and connect automatically with your device when you open the lid of the included charging case. AirPods use internal sensors and motion accelerometers to detect when they're in your ears, or when you tap them to control playback, answer a call, or activate Siri. They also offer Active Noise Cancellation for when you want to block out ambient noise, and a Transparent Mode when you don't. The AirPods Pro come with a Lightning-to-USB-C cable, three pairs of silicone ear tips, and a Wireless Charging Case, which is compatible with Qi Wireless Charging.

Ear Tips: Unlike previous versions of AirPods, the AirPods Pro come with three sizes of soft, flexible silicone ear tips. The tapered ear tips help keep your AirPods in place by conforming to the size and shape of your ear canal. The ear tips create a seal to enhance the effect of Active Noise Cancellation. Vents in the ear tips help equalize the air pressure for ultimate comfort.
Power Requirements: Each individual Apple AirPod Pro has a built-in rechargeable battery. The batteries are charged whenever you place them inside of the Charging Case, which contains its own rechargeable battery. The AirPods Pro are equipped with Apple's legendary H1 headphone chip, which makes them more stable and efficient. The AirPods Pro provide up to 4.5 hours of listening or up to 3.5 hours of talk time on a single charge. With Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode off, you can listen for up to 5 hours. A 5-minute Quick Charge in the case gives you around an hour of listening time or talk time. When the battery in the Charging Case is charged to capacity, you can recharge the AirPods multiple times. With the AirPods Pro and the Charging Case, you get more than 24 hours of listening time, or up to 18 hours of talk time. You can check the charge status of your AirPods and Charging Case with a compatible Apple device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac). A Lightning-to-USB-C cable is provided for charging the Charging Case.
Wireless Charging Case: The included Charging Case is compatible with Qi Wireless Charging. Charging is as simple as placing the AirPods in the case, and placing the case face up on a Qi-compatible charging mat. The LED indicator on the front of the case lets you know the AirPods are charging. If no wireless charging pad is available, you can still plug in the case with an Apple Lightning cable. The AirPods and Charging Case will stop charging when the battery reaches 100%, and will trickle-charge to keep the devices at 100%. Apple H1 Headphone Chip: The H1 headphone chip inside the Apple AirPods Pro was introduced in 2019 with the AirPods2. The chip supports Bluetooth 5.0, and provides a stable wireless connection to your devices, with fast connection to your devices, longer battery life, improved latency, and fewer dropouts.
Force Sensor: The AirPods Pro features a new force sensor on its stem that lets you control your music playback and phone calls, and activate Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode.
Active Noise Cancellation: Apple AirPods Pro feature Active Noise Cancellation to block out ambient noise, so you can concentrate on what you're listening to. The AirPods have outward facing microphones that pick up external sounds, that are then cancelled with an opposite signal before it reaches your ears. In addition, there are inward-facing microphones that listen inside of your ear for unwanted sound, which is also cancelled. Active Noise Cancellation makes 200 sound adjustments per second, so all you hear is your music.
Transparency: When you want to be more aware of your surroundings, you can engage the Transparency mode, which lets ambient sound in for a more natural feel. Instead of cancelling external sounds, Transparency mode lets you hear people talking to you, oncoming traffic, or important public address announcements. You can switch between Transparency and ANC by pressing and holding the force sensor on the AirPods stem.
Microphones: The AirPods Pro have dual beam-forming microphones that focus on your voice, while rejecting ambient noise, making your phone calls crisp and clear.
Sound Quality: The AirPods Pro let you enjoy exceptional sound quality with a super-efficient, high dynamic range amplifier with Adaptive EQ. The internal microphones and Adaptive EQ help to fine tune your music by adjusting the the mid and low frequencies. The high-excursion speaker driver delivers powerful bass with little distortion.
Sensors and Accelerometers: The AirPods feature built-in optical sensors and motion accelerometers that can automate numerous functions. When the AirPods are pulled out of their Charging Case, they instantly turn on and connect to your iOS device or compatible Bluetooth device. As soon as you put them in your ears, your music starts playing. Take one or both AirPods out and your music pauses. The force sensor helps you change tracks, change the volume, or activate Siri (if you haven't enabled the "Hey Siri" hands-free function). The AirPods Pro feature a separate voice accelerometer that can detect when you're talking on the phone or to Siri, and will engage the microphone and reject background noise so your call is crystal clear.

I had the 1st generation AirPods and these are much better. Comfort, fit and sound are a great upgrade. AirPod Pro is the way to go if you are looking for a good wireless set for working from home or working out.
