Traps should be washed, disinfected with a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts of water and let it remain on for 20 minutes), and thoroughly rinsed after each capture to stop the spread of any potential disease. Animals frequently defecate and urinate when captured and it is unhealthy to put new bait down unless trap is cleaned thoroughly.

That is a very simple question.
to open it you lift the latch that is securing the door trap and than push down the side bar it will open.

To set this trap, first turn the U-shaped door locks to the open position so that they point outward. Second, push down on the straight trigger rod to open door. Push down on the looped trigger rod to open both doors. Position the flat end of the looped trigger rod under the flat end of the bait pan trigger, so that both doors are held open and the bait pan is level.

It was a lovely Sunday afternoon. My husband, 3 kids, and I were enjoying time together in the living room watching TV when out of nowhere we hear a distinct gunshot from our backyard. I look out the window to see a state trooper with his pistol drawn, pointed at a lifeless raccoon. Once he holstered his weapon, we went outside to find out what had happened. Apparently the raccoon wasn't acting quite right, roaming around people's porches and foaming at the mouth so the trooper decided to put it down. 
In the following days our yard was over run by a small family of raccoons looking for their loved one. The Havahart Small 2-Door Live Animal Trap helped us safely relocate the raccoons. I highly recommend to anyone who may be overrun by small animals.

Helped when DEC wouldn't

I've never used rat traps, never really had that problem, however, recently I had discovered a rat in my mom's backyard. I hate rats more than you can imagine, I am terrified of them. So, I hadn't been going to the backyard, I decided to try this trap whenever spark reviewer sent me the offer and I'm glad I did. This trap is perfect alternative to using rat poison, which can be harmful to other animals that live around the area, like squirrels or cats. It is super simple to set up, and the rat can go in through either side, but once it starts eating the food left in the little center tray, the doors on both ends close and the rat is trapped. Of course I didn't get close to it at all, that was all my dad's job, but I'm glad it works.

Took care of a tiny problem

The squirrels have eaten a hole in the trash cans, along with possums, and whatever else is lurking out there. I'm hoping to catch them and take them away to animal control. We are constantly cleaning the yard after they get in and pull trash out , then the nieghborhood dogs and stray dogs help by making a mess, so I'm hoping by removing the pest from the trash it will in turn remove the bigger pest.
No one seems to know who the animals belong to, so we will see how this works out.
Also Im hoping to catch the many cats and find them a new home far far away from me haha
Im sure this trap will work for them too I just need the right bait. The spring-loaded door is easy to set and easy to get the animals out when they get trapped. This one has two doors so they can go in on either side. Which is helpful. The sensitive triggers ensure a quick but non-harmful way to catch them. 
I had a little bit of a time trying to get it set. I read it over and just could not get it so my husband read it once and got it the first time. I am hoping to take care of the unwanted animals. In a Non-harmful way. I don't like the ideal of doing this I just would like to have a clean yard. I recommend this due to the simplicity of it, and it works we have already caught one.

Easy catch

This was perfect to catch the gopher that keeps coming to the backyard and upsetting my dogs.This is perfect for small animals and it is so easy to set up and use heavy duty and easy to carry also so if you need to catch a small animal go buy this .

2 door small trap

I have recently received the "Havahart Small 2-Door Live Animal Trap" from the sparks reviewer program. This item was shipped already assembled and ready to use. Instructions are listed on the side of the box for how to operate the animal trap. It has really simple instructions and only takes three adjustments to set up the trap for use. This trap has two functioning doors on both ends to allow any small sized animal to wander in from either direction. The center of the trap has a bait tray which operates the trap trigger and closes the doors when moved. Both of the doors are spring loaded, and close by gravitational force. This size of trap is good for any small sized rodents or critters. It is also a humane method to safely remove these animals without causing them harm. Squirrels, rabbits, rats, chipmunks, opossums, cats or any other small sized animal are small enough to fit inside this trap. Setup is very easy and quick to do. Overall size is 17.5 inches x 5.25 inches x 7.25 inches. The box even offers bait tips to use for different animals. I really think this is a good sturdy trap needed to catch small critters and is useful to do it humanely.

Good trap

The Havahart Small 2-Door Live Animal Trap was received unwrapped with just the label put onto the box itself. It came with a two-sided instruction sheet which was easy to understand. After it was unpacked, I realized immediately that it was well constructed and relatively sturdy -- made of some type of metal or aluminum. It is designed with sort of miniature rectangles. I wanted a cage like this one to try and catch the baby mice that seem to have a run of my house in spite of the fact that I have an exterminator. The exterminator has definitely helped to keep the mice under control but not altogether getting rid of them. I am not too comfortable with killing the little critters reason for which I got this trap. Well, the little mice are able to wiggle themselves out of this thing. However, it appears the trap would be just fine for catching rats which are larger.

So, now I will use the Havahart Small 2-Door Live Animal Trap in my backyard to try to catch the squirrels which come around often enough. 

Overall, I recommend this product because it is a humane way in getting rid of pests without killing them. You must insert some food inside. Another thing, after you catch the critter, you should take the cage some distance away from your home and release it and instructions recommend you wear gloves when handling the cage.

I have a cat and dog problem in my neighborhood. The dog is doing there busy just off my porch so when my 2 ½ year old goes out to play its right there. I'm hoping to get them and find them a new home away from mine. The trap is also a good carrier so I can transport they without having to find some else to do with them.  Or have the no kill shatter come get them. The loving squirrels that get in the trash I'm hoping to get them and take them any. Just about every day we are picking up trash out of the yard or dog and cat using our yard as their bathroom. It says it is rust- resistant wire mesh with steel reinforcements for long life and galvanized for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion. We will see when it's raining. The spring-loaded doors are easy to set and easy to get the animals out when they get trapped in there. This one I got has two doors so they can go in other side. The sensitive triggers ensure a quick but non-harmful way to catch them unwanted guest.

Non-harmful way to clean up the unwanted animals

This Havahart trap is well made and, the steel is a plus. It's also waterproofed and, has a carrying handle. My issue and, the reason for giving a three star, is, it's very sensitive and, complicated. I have tried several times selling this trap and, it keeps shutting the doors when touched. Finally, I was able to add some peanut butter and, placed outside. The paper instructions that came with it is useless, was unable to see the pictures clearly. Now the trap is all set, and awaiting my night visitor.. Will update when caught.

Complicated

I decided to use this trap to trap some rodents that were eating the strawberries from my garden with the intention of releasing them in the woods a couple miles from my home as I thought that would be a more humane situation. I used peanut butter on the trap plate which is helpful to set up in the house before positioning in the garden. Don't be surprised that you'll need a couple attempts to capture anything. The peanut butter bait was gone but the doors were open and the doors were closed but there was not rodent. I find this to be typical of this kind of trap. When the doors to the trap close they slam close which depending on what type of animal you are planning on trapping and your purpose of trapping; slamming doors can severely startle the animal.

Pretty typical trap

I have had this small animal trap about a week now with high hopes in catching at least one of the pesky squirrel's that have been eating all my birds seed and food. I have put peanut butter along with a nut on tray and they have disappeared but the trap has NOT tripped and I have not caught any animal yet. Whatever is getting the food is not setting the trap off, I would say that the trap is not sensitive enough or it would have caught what's taking the food. 
The trap seems to be well made , sturdy and like other Large traps I have had in the past and does have small netting. The only thing I can think of is maybe a small field mouse could be getting past the trap sensitivity or going trough the holes. As far as being a decent trap , Maybe if it were more sensitive to weight of the animal. I put it right where the squirrels run after I scare them away but I guess they are too smart to go for the trap ! OR , they are and it's not tripping and catching them. 
Bottom line : Food missing and trap not tripped ,you decide ....
