Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron
Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron
Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron, manufactured by VPG, is an easy to use liquid plant food that gives plants the nutrients they need to thrive against yellowing or other nutritional deficiencies such as iron, zinc, copper, and manganese.
As a foliar and soil application, Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron will be directly applied to the plants leaves or roots. Once absorbed, the liquid fertilizer will be immediately within the foliage system all the way to the plants roots providing a fast correction of discoloration from stress, drought, insect or weed activity.
Tools Needed
To use Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron, you will need a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or hose-end sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron to use by examining the type of foliage to treat and measuring the treatment areas square footage. To find the square footage, measure and multiply the length times the width (length X width = total square footage). For foliar spray application with a handheld or broadcast sprayer, use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water for shrubs and trees. For a general soil application for plants up to 5 ft., apply 2 to 10 tbsp. per gallon of water. For larger plants and shrubs than 5 ft., mix between 8 to 16 fl. oz. (1 to 2 cups) of product per gallon of water. Soil applications for flowers and vegetables, you will apply 2 tbsp. per gallon of water per 10 sq. ft. For hose-end spray applications, apply 1 pint of product per 500 sq. ft. for lawns and trees. For potted plants, mix 1/2 teaspoon of product per quart of water. Apply 1 cup of mixture per 6 inch pot. If a pot is less than 6 inches apply less, but if pot is larger than this apply more. For example, you have a potted plant that measures 8 inches then you will apply 1 cup of product with 4 cups of water.
- Step 2: For a pump or handheld sprayer application, add half of the correct amount of water into spray tank, then add the measured Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron, fill the sprayer with the other half of water. Close the sprayer lid and agitate until spray solution is evenly mixed. For hose-end sprayer application, do not turn on water hose and screw the hose-end sprayer nozzle to your spray hose. Remove the bottom reservoir from the sprayer and add the required amount of product and water according to label instructions and the markings on the sprayer's reservoir. Once the product is mixed, attach the reservoir back onto the sprayer, turn on the water to the hose and use the plastic valve to turn on the water to the sprayer.
- Step 3: For soil applications, cultivate the ground lightly under the branches to ensure even coverage of Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron and soak thoroughly with at least an inch of water after treatment. For sprayer applications, adjust spray nozzle to a spray fan setting and coat to top and bottom of targeted foliage leaves to the point of run off. Any excess that drips off the leaves will fall into plant's feed zone providing a longer lasting result.
Where to Use
Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron can be used on residential or commercial lawns containing potted plants, shrubs, trees, citrus and shade trees including avocados and mangoes, flowers, and vegetables.
When to Use
Use Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron when plants are beginning to yellow or turn discolored. Typically, this is during dry, summer months or when insect or weed activity is occuring within your lawn.
For citrus trees, apply every two weeks during the months of January, February and March or during budding and blooming.
Safety Information
Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.
Special Considerations
Ferti-Lome Chelated Liquid Iron should not be substituted for fertilizer, but should be used in addition to your regular, monthly fertilizer program. If used alone without a fertilizer, yellowing or discolored foliage will continue to occur without results being seen.

Q:Can I use this product on a 3 foot spruce pine planted last year?6/22/23A:Julie, I would not unless it is showing signs of yellowing. Fertilome Tree and Shrub is an excellent product to use for young trees. The ones I treated were 100 plus years old. Hope this helps. Ria
